For those unfamiliar, Andrew Zhang Hong is a native of the Bay Area who earned the Grandmaster (GM) title in 2021. Born in San Jose and a graduate of Saratoga High School, Andrew is a former standout in Northern California scholastic chess and has established himself as one of the top young talents in the United States. At just 21 years old, GM Hong boasts a peak FIDE classical rating of 2609 and continues to balance a professional chess career while attending Brown University. I love hearing success stories like his from our region and am excited to watch him play in Santa Clara on October 12!
