The Eade Foundation Spring Scholastic Chess Classic 2022

On May 8, FIDE Master James Eade and Chris Torres of DailyChessMusings.com will come together to present the second annual Eade Foundation Spring Scholastic Chess Classic. The goal of this online tournament is to raise awareness for the Eade Foundation’s goals of promoting chess literacy and chess excellence globally.  The Eade Foundation’s Spring Scholastic Chess Classic is a 5 round Swiss style chess tournament broken up by grade level into 4 sections (K-1, 2-5, 6-8, 9-12 .) Scholastic chess players from around the United States are invited to participate in this inaugural event and compete while doing their part to promote chess excellence globally. The top 20 players in each section will receive incredible custom awards including plaques and medals.  The entry fee is just $20 but, since this is a US Chess online rated event, all participants must be current members of the United States Chess Federation. School aged chess players are encouraged to join Jim Eade and Chris Torres in support of increasing chess literacy and excellence by signing up for the Eade Foundation Spring Scholastic Chess Classic here:

Sections: In 4 sections Grades K-1, 2-5, 6-8, 9-12

TIME CONTROLS: G/15+10 (Game in 15 with 10 second increment)

Round Times: Sun 9am, 10:00am, 11:00am, Lunch, 12:30pm, 1:30pm. Log into Tornelo.com 15 minutes before game.  (Pacific Time)

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Half point byes: Available all rounds, limit 2 byes, must be claimed with registration & cannot be changed.

USCF membership required.

Must register by May 7 at 11:59 pm Pacific Time. 

Online Regular rated (will not affect OTB ratings), Online Regular ratings used for pairings (OTB ratings used if no Online).

EF: $20 + US Chess Membership (https://new.uschess.org/become-member) if not already a current member. $10 service charge for refunds. WARNING: YOU MUST BE A Current US Chess Member to Participate and LOGGED IN WHEN PAIRINGS ARE ISSUED, OR YOU WILL NOT BE PAIRED.

Chris Torres is a nationally renowned scholastic chess coach working in the San Francisco Bay Area. His classes have attracted players of strengths ranging from rank beginners to world champions. A chess professional since 1998, Chris is widely recognized as one of the main driving forces behind the explosion in popularity and sudden rise in quality of scholastic chess in California. Chris Torres served as the President of the Torres Chess and Music Academy from 2005-2020 and currently is recognized as a correspondence chess master with the United States Chess Federation. Since 1998 Chris Torres has taught 6 individual national champions as well as led multiple school teams to win national championship titles. In addition, Chris Torres has directed and taught at 10 different schools which have been California State Champions at chess. In 2011 and 2012, several former and current students of Chris Torres have been selected to represent the United States at the World Youth Chess Championships. Mr. Torres’ hobbies include playing classical guitar and getting his students to appear on the national top 100 chess rating lists.
