Announcing The Daily Chess Musings Summer Games

As a result of the ongoing pandemic, chess players from around the globe have been deprived of many fun opportunities to face one another in competition. The Daily Chess Musings Summer Games offers chess players an opportunity to compete and share their love for chess at a major online international chess event.

The Daily Chess Musings Summer Games are organized by California chess coach Chris Torres. During the Summer Games players from around the world will compete in daily chess events from August 2 through 5. The Daily Chess Musings Summer Games have no entry fee and winners will be awarded special prizes. Daily Chess Musings chess club membership is required to participate but joining the club is free and easy.

In order to participate players must:

Have a Chess.com account and be members of the Daily Chess Musings Club

Fill out the Registration Form at the bottom of this page

Agree to the Fair Play Standards listed below and the Chess.com Fair Play Policy

We will email you with an invitation to your section and instructions the day before each event.

The schedule for the Daily Chess Musings Chess Games will be as follows:

Monday, August 2nd

Rapid Chess

Rapid Chess means each player has 30 minutes or less on their clock.

All sections will be G/15 with 4 Rounds. Round 1 is at 6:00 pm Pacific Time. There may be an extra tiebreak event afterwards if needed. Be sure to pay attention as each round will begin immediately after the previous round concludes.

Tuesday, August 3rd

Blitz Chess

Blitz Chess means each player has 5mins or less. That means the games will take no longer than 10 minutes.

All sections will be G/5 with 10 Rounds. Round 1 is at 6:00 pm Pacific Time. Be sure to pay attention as each round will begin immediately after the previous round concludes.

Wednesday, August 4th 

Bughouse Chess

Bughouse Chess is a variant played on two chessboards by four players in teams of two. Each team member faces one opponent of the other team.

All sections will be G/5 with 10 Rounds. Round 1 is at 6:00 pm Pacific Time. Be sure to pay attention as each round will begin immediately after the previous round concludes.

Thursday, August 5th

Bullet Chess

Bullet Chess refers to games played with time controls that are faster than 3 minutes per player.

All sections will be G/1 with 20 Rounds. Round 1 is at 6:00 pm Pacific Time. Be sure to pay attention as each round will begin immediately after the previous round concludes.

Friday, August 6th 

Chess 960

Chess960 is a variation of the game of chess invented by the former World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer. Chess 960 employs the same board and pieces as classical chess, but the starting position of the pieces on the players’ home ranks is randomized, following certain rules.

All sections will be G/15 with 4 Rounds. Round 1 is at 6:00 pm Pacific Time. There may be an extra tiebreak event afterwards if needed. Be sure to pay attention as each round will begin immediately after the previous round concludes.

Special Regulations and FairPlay Rules

Each Event will be broken into three skill-level sections. Players with fewer than 20 rated games on chess.com will automatically be placed in the Open (highest rating) section. The Daily Chess Musings Summer Games will not be rated by national or international governing bodies of chess however rules of FairPlay will be strictly enforced as prizes will be awarded to winners of each section. Any players found to have violated FairPlay rules will be ineligible to win prizes, removed from the Daily Chess Musings Chess Club and reported to Chess.com. So don’t cheat, it isn’t worth the trouble!
