The Eade Foundation is sending support for scholastic chess in Capetown, South Africa thanks to some help from the fine young chess players of Mission 360.

Readers of this blog will recall an article entitled “NorCal Chess Organizations Working Together in Support of Building Chess Communities in South Africa.” In that post, I described how Mission 360 was planning a tournament at the Bay Area Chess headquarters in San Jose, California to raise funds for The Eade Foundation’s initiative to grow youth chess in Capetown, South Africa. Now, I would like to give a quick update on the project.

The tournament for Capetown attracted more than 30 players. Beautiful trophies for scholastic players were donated by Mission360 founders FM Eric Li and FM Kevin Pan. All rounds went smoothly with Kevin directing the scholastic tournament while the adult sections were directed by Mission360 Resident Tournament Director Aaron Dai. The free tournament raised $561 in total donations. Mission360 will match this 100% so they will be donating an impressive total of $1122 to The Eade Foundation’s mission to spread chess throughout schools in Capetown South Africa!

Talk about a success!
