The 50th Annual CalChess Scholastic State Championship took place at the Santa Clara Convention Center on March 22 and 23, 2025. I began attending this event in 1997 at the same convention center and haven’t missed a year since. Throughout the past 28 years I have witnessed many historical moments featuring Northern California’s brightest young chess players and made many friends through chess. The faces change overtime but the evolution of the competition, along with the growth of the chess community in Northern California, is a testament to the passion and dedication of everyone involved in making the Calchess Scholastic State Championship a truly special tournament.
Please enjoy swiping through the photo gallery below and don’t forget to send me your child’s best games from the tournament to be included in an upcoming article on the CalChess K-12 State Championship. Games can be submitted to DailyChessMusings@gmail.com by sending links to chess(dot)com, lichess, .pgn files, pgn text notation or even just photographs of your child’s recording sheet.
