The Lathrop Chess Club is a vibrant community gathering of chess enthusiasts that meets every first and third Saturday afternoon of the month. Managed by my daughters, this welcoming and free event invites chess players of all ages to join in the fun from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the Lathrop Library. Each session kicks off with a brief chess lesson, setting the stage for engaging casual games that follow.
Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to drop by and indulge in a few chess matches at the club. I particularly enjoyed playing against three enthusiastic elementary school players, as I always jump on an opportunity to inspire the next generation of chess lovers. One of my games concluded with a beautifully executed checkmate, which I’ve captured in the diagram below.
If you’re a chess player in the Lathrop or Manteca area, I highly recommend checking out the Lathrop Chess Club for some friendly competition and camaraderie. The club meets at the Lathrop Library, located at 450 Spartan Way in Lathrop, California, where chessboards and pieces are provided. I look forward to seeing you there the next time I have a day off!
